Here is the skinny about Greensboro's Cirque du Cyclisme...
Just briefly, the Cirque began 9 years ago and has grown to be a major undertaking... For instance, this year's event budget exceeded $12,000.00 and involves much volunteeer time and energy. It's great reward has been a wonderful, nationally recognized weekend that has attracted many fantastic people to our community for cycling fun and frolic. This event has organized as a completely not-for-profit affair, I myself or through cycles de ORO have taken no compensation, and this year over $6K went to Operation Smile (via the charity auction) and if there is an overall surplus (questionable), it will go to the local bike club, Greensboro Velo Club, to put back into community cycling.
I decided a few years back that I would operate this event for 10 years; that would be my "Tour of Duty." The upcoming 2007 Cirque will be the 10th year and the final event that I will organize. Therefore recently, I made that known to a number of very close & trusted CR friends and, to my pleasure and amazement, a number of them are interested in "carrying the torch", i.e. continuing the Cirque in their own cities. Between now and the 2007 Cirque, we will be working behind the scenes to determine who will actually take the "franchise" and we will announce those details at the final event in G'boro next year..
While I have your ear, I must thank all the too-many-to-list folks would have contributed to this event and help make it a warm and complete gathering of like minded bike lovers. The enthusiasts and collectors and custom builders and bike club folk, all have pitched in wonderfully. They have enriched me with their friendship.
So, two final reminders: - Don't miss next year's Cirque, it will be a doozie! - Support the next "edition" of the Cirque! Ain't nothing quite like it! Yesiree!
Thanks to all, Dale
