Rich Pinder asks about first use of a seatpost mount -- don't know. But how about another approach I've surprisingly only seen on one bike (an older bike used by a serious tourer in the '60's): the previous owner had it rigged with an extra cage mounted below and in front of the down tube, since the main triangle was occupied by a pump, DT shifters, at least one other water bottle. It worked just fine as a reserve location in that little triangle of space, if you didn't mind wiping road grime off when you switch bottles. Old hat?
