I don't think there is one correct answer. If you call the shop in Paris, they answer the phone with the french version, however Lou Deeter wrote me off-line to say that his source says it is pronounced Zinger, like the yiddish term for someone who sings. Keep in mind that Alex was a Hungarian Jew and the original pronunciation was most likely different from what they are using at Rue Victor Hugo.
