Philip Bailey lamented not finding good quotes for chroming whole frames.

A shop near me quoted less than $400 for plating frame and (I believe) fork, without me asking, when I brought it in with some parts I was having plated (its Magistroni cranks, etc).

"Back in the days," we were quite confident we could spot "after-brazing" chroming: as someone suggested earlier in this thread, it always was rough around the BB. I'm sure that there are more chromed paramounts now than were sold new...

More importantly, Bailey's call for using experienced shops is critical. The motorcycle chromer who did stays on an Atala for us decades ago did not properly neutralize the salts remaining in the tubes, and I wound up having to replace one seat stay that rotted through.

All-in-all, I'm not enthusiastic about chroming frames after they are constructed. Waterford won't do it. But, if Brian Bayliss has found the right shop, I'll trust Brian as an exception.
