Subject: [CR]Hub Race Removal

Someone recommended cutting down an allen wrench to make a cheap Hub Race Removal Tool. Tried it today. Slipped the wrench in from one side then flipped the head under the race. The "head" has to be sharpened a bit to fit.

Placed the Hub on a wooden park bench and took a few swings on the "tail"end of the wrench. The Miche races came right off. But persistent swings didn't even budge the Campy Hub races.

After hammering a finger and thumb on the allen wrench holding hand I took a rest and came back with a piece of wood with a hole in it for the wrench.

This way I could take really heavy swings without fear of reprisal. The races came off.. Backlash from the "light" swings left their mark on the inside of the hub.

I probably should have heated the hub to loosen the races but the Mrs. does not approve of such uses of her kitchen.

Anybody have a home-made race mounting tools they recommend?
