My name is John Hurley and I live in Austin, Texas. I have a late-1970's Peugeot PX-10 which I bought new in El Paso, Texas in 1982. I'm not sure how one buys a new bike that is several years old, but I bought it from the dealer as new. I was hoping the PX-10 database could help me determine the production date, but it appears the database never developed to that point. Before this I owned a Peugeot UO-8 from the early 1970's, so I have a soft spot in my heart/head for the French product.

The PX-10 has seen little use over the years (more's the pity), but the recent breakage of delrin components (jockey wheel and front derailleur) sparked a repair effort which revealed the problems and the seduction of owning an antique. Not being able to justify the expense of a new bike of comparable quality, I located parts and invested labor in the old war horse. The seduction then took hold, for in pouring yourself into a thing, it somehow grows in worth. Anyway, the bike looks and rides as good as ever, and is a source of great joy and satisfaction.-John Hurley, Austin, Texas, USA
