Pic of the Day 7th April, 2007

Seventy-One Years Ago

Milan - San Remo, 1936. Sheltered beneath a spectator's umbrella, Learco Guerra (g.s. Legnano) waits in vain for a new wheel. Rainy conditions saw a number of Italians lose-out on the way from Milan - San Remo. Giuseppe Olmo (g.s. Bianchi) flatted and fell heavily. Alfredo Binda, in his final year of racing, crashed and injured his leg. 1935's winner Learco Guerra crashed and broke his rear wheel. Help came too late for Guerra, and he withdrew from the race. The race was won by Angelo Varetto (g.s. Gloria), ahead of Carlo Romanatti and Olimpio Bizzi (g.s. Frejus). From "Le Miroir des Sports" No.877, 31 March 1936.
