What a great deal Danny. Congratulations!

I believe, judging from the serial number and your photos, your bike was a ctually built in August of 1979 .

There is a full listing for production dates of all Paramounts on the Waterford Precision Cycles website. You can start at this following page and navigate through their archives regarding dating and general info about your bike and the Paramount heritage in general. Very interesting reading:

Waterford was started by Richard Schwinn after the Schwinn company (and Name) was sold to an Asian corporation in the 1990s.

The following is also a link to a wonderful Schwinn Lightweight Data Book which a Schwinn enthusiast has been constructing for years. Scroll down the page to read about your year and model:

... then you can click onto the smaller specific link pages to view scans of the various original catalog pages, etc.... such as the following catalog page for your bike - which shows the (SunTour-made?) LeTour GT300 rear derailleur you have - which is indeed original:

Even if you never ride the bike, it will be a great adventure learning all about it. At the time, they were probably the most expensive "production" bikes made in America, and were all hand-brazed like Europe's best, and used the finest available components. They are definitely increasing in value in recent years so you really should hang onto yours - and in it's original condition.

Best Regards,
