The RRA always seemed VERY expensive to me. The 1957-58 RRA Moderne seemed especially so compared to other machines, costing just shy of 40 quid. Then again, I nominate mine as one of the nicest riding, most delightful handling bicycles I own. Indeed a few other owners of this model have said the same thing. But lasting two years, I guess the market spoke.

British purchase tax on cycles was astonishingly high.. in think. c. 1946-49 under Atlee it was something like 33 per cent (!) on complete machines to encourage export sales rather than domestic ones. That sure would do the trick!
