Subject: [CR]Tod's Herman....?

A frame with lugs like this one turned up either on this List,Ebay, or p ossibly in the V-CC magazine not all that long ago, and it is very similar to an "oldy" road frame that has plagued me for a long while...even down to the identical blue paintwork

Like Tod's frame, mine is all Chater-Lea, but with the road dr op-outs. The fork blades with their elegant rake are the same, as is the cr own, but the seat-stays tops are not left open, nor are the fork and stay e nds. BUT..side-by-side they would not look much different..except for the l ug cutting as well.

So...with all those differences why do they look alike? I can't really a nswer that precisely b ut they just do..and it's not just the all-obliterat ing blue paint. It could also be that I remember this other frame..somewher e with the same lugwork.

I have never heard of a HERMAN bike...it's a very Germanic name, but wou ld a German bulder have used Chater-Lea components? I doubt it.

My best guess is that it is a "Harry H HALL"....or an even better guess is that it is a 1930s/early40s Macleans. Perhaps Hilary can cast some light on the matter, as lugs like those are not easily forgotten?
