Subject: [CR]Wheels make you faster...a variation

I have had two sets of the Continental Attack Force tires and they seemed ok to me. Now, these tires use a slightly narrower front tire than rear.one MM, if I am recalling correctly. We've all probably seen some of the Harley crowd with the really fat rear tire. While this latter seems to my mind to be strictly a bit of appearance hyperbole, I do wonder about the application to bicycles.

Is there an actual benefit to running a fatter rear tire? I can understand that with the larger tire one might be a bit more resistant to a snake bite flat.also that perhaps with less air pressure on that rear tire, the ride might be a bit softer (I ran my Attack Force tires at the same pressure front and rear).

So my question is a two part one.is there any real benefit to such an arrangement and, if so, how far can this whole idea be pushed before it gets to be more problem than help? What will be the consequences of too much difference between front and rear? Is anything really gained with the narrower front or would one be better off with fatter tires on both ends? Wonder if Jan's testing has bothered messing with this idea?
