Hi everyone, to all/any the South Africans on the list, howzit!

As you may have guessed I'm a South African hailing from Bryanston Gauteng.

In my day job, I am involved with Ubuntu Linux.

Cycling and the restoring of bicycles is only one of my many hobbies (being single has great advantages :) ), I have also built a strip- built sea kayak, I build electric guitars and basses, play bass and tinker with a classic 1968 Mercedes Benz.

My most recent cycle project was the restoring my childhood friend, a Peugot 18 speed mountain bike. I gave it a nice retro feel, but other than that its rather non-de-script.

My next project and partly the reason as to why I joined the list, is that I have discovered a 1948-1950 Carlton racing bike stuck away in my grandfather's garage. I am not too sure which model it is, it hasn't been used in 40 years. I believe that it is in restorable condition. I'll post pics when I have pried it out of the old man's fingers ( he thinks that its worth a fortune) and hopefully garner some advice from list members as to the best angle of attack, (restoring the bike that is, not forcefully convincing the old man :) )

Cheers,

Ross Addis
