I just acquired a very nice 'Ciclo Piave' road bike

Did you see the pics of the (highly) restored Piave in my L'Eroica report?

Hey, All!

I just acquired a very nice 'Ciclo Piave' road bike, and am looking for a bit more info about it. Google produced some hits, and a little historical info; but most of the hits led to sites whose native language I do not speak. It has some very nice, ornate lugs w/ long spearpoints on the head lugs, and also on the fork crown; the head badge is also quite beautiful. Campy drop-outs, and what I suppose is Colombus 'SL' tubing (no sticker, but the steerer is rifled, and the chainstays have that distinctive shape of older Colombus tubesets). It is quite light, about 19lbs w/ a mixture of Nuovo Gran Sport & Nuovo record parts, and Universal 'Super 68' brakes. It looks to be a mid-70's bike, but has an oiler hole (!) on the head tube, a design feature I thought became extinct in the early 60's. The frame decals are cheap mylar, but other than that, it is a pretty classy machine...I will be posting some pix on my Flickr page tomorrow evening, if it rings any bells, please let me know. List member Harry Davis requested info on KOF shops in Portland; as a Portland native, I have some recommendations: * Sellwood Cycle Repair- the best place in Portland to find vintage used parts, and there are usually some interesting consignment bikes hanging around. * Veloce, in the Hawthorne district- consignment store, usually a number of KOF bikes in stock. * The Recyclery- they host a series of bike swaps during the season, and have some very interesting vintage bikes on display. * River City Bikes- not exactly a KOF store, per se; but they do have free espresso on Saturdays, and a shrine to Eddy Merckx. Plus a very cool assortment of 'not for sale' bikes on display- ladies' Paramount, '73 Raleigh Pro, and others- all in mint shape. * Weir's Cyclery, in St. Johns- oldest shop in Portland, and their basement hosts several of Portland's finest framebuilders.....and last but not least, my humble basement shop, home to several vintage Bianchis, a Mondia 'cross bike, a '59 Ideor, a '77 Gitane 'Audax' tandem, a 60's A. Bertin and (if it gets here in time), my newly-acquired '67 Legnano 'Roma', as well as a host of other projects. Feel free to contact me off-list, Harry (or any other lister who might be passing through). Portland is not just biketopia; it is also Beertopia, with over 40 micro-breweries to it's name....first pint is on me!

Cheers, Larry Myers Portland, OR, USA
