Call me a heretic, but I'll venture to say the compatibility issues with modern components are less than what we had to deal with on vintage stuff. At the very least, it's not any worse.

Today, mordern components use BSA threading for components and metric threading for accessories. And onse in a while there's an italian BB and headset to deal with. No more french, swiss, torrington, whitworth, etc. threading to be surprised and aggravated.

A few days back I appealed to buy/trade for shift lever stop plate and cover plates for RD pulleys. Several CR members responded. Today, I received the first cover plates (with the second shifter stops). My immediate need was for cover plates for some Zeus pulleys I had bought from BC and Cecile, but which did not include the plates. I discovered the cover plates did not fit the Zeus pulleys.

I had assumed that the Zeus RD pulley cover plates were interchangeable with Campy. Bad assumption. In fact, the Zeus pulleys require a larger diameter plate than Campy. So the Campy or clone covers I had bought/traded for did not fit after all. It turns out Zeus RD pulleys take the same cover plates a Simplex, even though the bushings are different.

So, anyone have Simplex RD pulley cover plates to trade or sell?

Strangely, Spanish-made Triplex pulleys use the same size cover plates as Campy, but different from Zeus, so this stuff wasn't standard, even among the Spanish manfacturers. Ain't collecting this stuff fun?
