I have Galli brakes on 2 different bikes...one brakeset is the road version with quick release on the upper arm. The other is marked 'Galli' on one arm, 'cross' on the other, with the quick release also on the upper arm. What sets the 'cross' brakes apart is the wide arc in the caliper arms, allowing for a wider tire caked with mud to still clear the arms. For dating purposes, they are mounted on a 1974 Colin Laing, and in a discussion with Colin, he believes they are original to the bike. The road brakeset is gold, the cross is polished silver.

I have a 3rd brakeset in a box and when I find it, I'll check for placement of the quick release.

CR, If you are interested in a distinctive vintage cyclocross sidepull

brakeset, eBay seller zairebunia has three sets of Galli Cross brakes NOS NIB in that distinctive Galli dark blue/black anodized color. It appears that the cyclocross version of this Galli brakeset differs from the road version in that the quickrelease is on the upper brake arm in the cross version versus the lower brake arm in the road version. I'm supposing that reduces mud fouling the quickrelease (?) and there may be other differences from the road version unknown to me. The brakeset I received has some light surface corrosion on the unanodized alloy quickrelease mounting post and securing nut but is otherwise perfect. No relation to seller.
