I just surfed over to see those rims and tires on Peter's bike. What a bike! Very original, correct and somehow just "right".

I can't believe those "1-inch" tires are the width equivalent of what is/was sold here with that stated sizing. All the 27X1" tires I've seen measure all of just 20mm, apparently contrary to the photos and well less than the 23mm rim width. Am I missing something?

Also, about chromed rims, I like the look of chrome but only once have I ever found a good pair cheaply. These came on a Japanese Kobe 10-speed, and are Araya-made. They are narrow, and thankfully straight, smooth and ROUND, since the dotted sidewalls are canted which means braking is affected by even the slightest out-of-roundness. I bought the $20 bike for these wheels (with Suzue Forged HF hubs), and fitted them to a NOS Bridgestone 200 in charcoal grey, bought for $35. I fitted the still-common, $11 Cheng-shin semi-skinwalls (C-732, Super-HP) in the 1-1/8" size (25-26mm actual) and this looks just right with the semi-pointed tread profile. These rims also measure 22-23mm wide at their widest point at the outer edge of the rim's periphery.
