Further to the contri I sent a couple of days agoin which I mentioned the frequent availablity of real team bikes on French Ebay well, just like the proverbial buses...along comes another one..just in time to prove my point.

Item 26020205462576 is a bike from the last team MAXI-SPORT that Cyrille Guimard, the former pro and tadtical mastermind who led Hinault and the Renault Gitane team and its successors to so many victories. The machine belonged to Laurent Roux, who was quite well known in his native France.

The frame on this machine is an Altec finely welded alloy one...and therefore just out of the List's time-line but I trust that Dale will permit this contri to illustrate the point I am trying to make. However these magnificent frames were crafted by Cycles Philippe in Blois..and were probably the first alloy frames other than the ubiquitous Vitus 979.and the Alans .to be used by the continental pros. Dating, I think, from the end of the 80s

At 500 euros it does not seem a bad buy for someone who wants to have a piece of Tour de France history in his cycling stable..and there's less than 12 hours to go.

I know where this bike is..and could arrange for it to be picked up and got back to the States fairly easily and quickly..Just an aside..the Campagnolo 50th Anniversary groupset NIB, that I outes yesterday went to the only bidder for the starting price of 999 euros. From the various emails I have received and read on the List..this would appear to be a bargain price.
