Can only say that my experience with Viscounts has been totally happy. The frames were excellent value for money in their day, and components are easily upgraded. I have a 1975 model, bought from the original owner with the Yamaha replace ment chromed forks. Only thing replaced in 30 years was the rear wheel.(Steel rather than alloy) I've used it for 3 years with no regrets/problems.

Then I bought a 1980 model - with conventional BB - and although it was wor n out, I have replaced the necessaries. (Wheels Mavic M3s with 8 speed block, brakes/front+rear mechs, etc.) It is now a superb machine for every day riding. Went to Coventry couple of weeks ago, 70 miles no problems with a heavy bag on the rear rack.

I always positively welcome the talk of 'death forks' because it keeps thes e fine bicycles/frames cheap for the likes of me!!

I know a guy hereabouts who has at least 20 Viscounts, several with the alu minium 'death forks'. (which will soon have a premium because of that!!) He rides them with no problems! (Yet!)
