car tires (and motorcycle tires) are so much wider and often go 2 to 3 times as fast as bicycle tires. most road bicycle tires are narrower than the space between treads on car tires. cars do weigh a lot more ... the only time I've ever come upon anything like hydroplaning on a bicycle is in frozen weather, or when the wind picks me up and puts me on the other side of the road (glad no cars were coming!)
