I must make the correction. The Taylor standing start unpaced, mile time on a velodrome was 1 minute 41.4 seconds not 141.4 seconds, which presupposing a five to ten second penalty over a flying start mile would mean that he averaged 45 mph for everything but the first lap. The time which is attributed to him of 1 minute 19 seconds was on a velodrome and paced. To me the paced time means very little but 45 mph solo on a track for anything over 100 meters!? OH MY! .... No one at the velodrome in Cooper City last friday broke 2 minutes for the mile! Some of those guys looked pretty much in tip top shape ... many were very young at the top of their game and all of them had their pick of whatever is the current state of the art of unobtanium. Taylor's bike either weighed 14 pounds or 20 pounds depending on the year as described in the most current biography.
