Subject: [CR]Adams sister's bike and weinmann brakes

Re: Adam's sister's bike. This is a very pretty bike in my estimation. I have always had a fondness for this model. Yes it is the entry level 531db frame, for Raleigh. The components were not top shelf but serviceable. I would ride it as is if it were mine, alas it is not. My usual practice is to store away anything I take off. Here i also advise it. If your sister at some time decides to return the bike, you can return all the original parts to sell if selling is required. If it looks like a permanent deal, well then sell what you need to. Most of all, it is better that the bike be ridden in a new conformation rather than sitting idle. Adam I think you have picked a fine frame for your sister. I know I am 59, but you can still adopt me if you want to give me a new wheel. 2. Weinmann center-pull brakes: I have found the failing
of some early, read 70s era, brakes shortcomings were the pads not the brakes themselves. I used to put down Universal 68 brakes. When I put modern compound pads on them; voila, real stopping.I had not thought about making boosters for Weinmanns. I think I will try it. Thank you Mr. Snyder, up the hill in Auburn, for the idea. I have boosters for Mafac brakes, Sometimes you just don't think past the end of your nose. John StrizekSacratomato California USA
