Don't forget about the newer style front locknut with two wrench flats, as opposed to the old "acorn" nut. Also, you didn't show the drive side and the very important cable securing bolt, which I would bet is a newer 5mm Allen head type, instead of the old 8mm that works well with Campy's T-wrench.

I missed it when looking through Chuck Schmidt's timeline (thanks again Chuck) http://www.velo-retro.com/

1983 is the date.

So, to determine more about the date of the Bianchi-marked calipers on Ray Dobbins' bike http://www.raydobbins.com/ebay/bike-bianchi/bike-bianchi.htm

I took some pics of a caliper that I have, which seems to be the same as Ray's, along with a script style caliper and a block-style caliper.

I read further down on Ray's picture page, and see that he says that indeed, those special pantographed calipers were reshaped from the earlier C-section arms. So now I am on a hunt to see what the differences are between D section (script letters) and C section (block letters). I will check through my stash and report back...

I have a set of later script style campagnolo calipers. These have somewhat of a "D"-shaped cross section in the arms as opposed to the earlier "C" shaped cross section.

When did these D-shaped arms first appear?

In Ray Dobbins' excellent group of 1984 Bianchi Specialissima pictures http://www.raydobbins.com/ebay/bike-bianchi/bike-bianchi.htm

He shows brake calipers that were "reshaped" then pantographed. They weren't reshaped from C-section arms were they? Ray?

So, 2 questions: 1) when did the script style (D-section) calipers first appear, and 2) what cross section did Ray's special caliper arms have?
