Some of you may remember the yard sale teens Pierce Racer that looked like it was pulled from the Mariana's Trench I posted awhile back. Well it's finally back together and got ridden around the block a few times today. Still a few things to do. The Brooks Pro shown is temporary until Tony Colegrove gets finished rebuilding the original Brooks Champion that came on the bike. I need to find some better hardware to attach the headbadge, and still need to find the elusive "racer" headbadge that goes under it.
I learned a lot on this one and would do things a bit different if I could do them over. But all in all it came out very nice, and considering the found condition I do not feel too bad about straying from exact originality. I'm also proud of being able to save every original piece that came with the bike except for the rims, spokes, grips, and ball bearings. A lot of time went into saving that Reynold block chain that was rusted soild enough to mount a mailbox on!
Keith Anderson did the paint and stencils for the lettering. The "Racer" on the downtube was copied from the "Special Racer" lettering on Dale's Pierce (could not wait any longer for your pics Dale!).
Old school insane pin-striper (now local) Joey Madden did the lining. And a local plating shop handled all the nickel plating.
The quality of these bikes is pretty impressive and it was really nice to work on. The seat-stays, chain-stays, and rear drops are some of the sexiest ever!
