Subject: [CR]period correct 1st generation Super Record

Hi list, I'm sure someone will know this question, [Chuck?] hope so anyway! I have a project planned to build a 1st generation Super Record bike, I'll be building the frame in a mid 70s style [KOF] and I have all the 1st gen' parts, rear mech, twin bolt post etc, but my question is regarding the brakes and front mech..........my brakes are the Piccolo with nuts as opposed to AK and they have the chrome brake shoes with the plastic coating, I would have thought that the first SR brakes would have been supplied without the plastic coating? This could be easily removed by gently melting the plastic, but what would be revealed? hopefully the chrome would be good and also the lettering would still be there? ..........as anyone ever tried this? actually I have, but I can't remember if the lettering was still on the guides?

My second question is regarding the front mech, I have a 4 hole narrow band mech but I would think that would be appropriate for a 79 year bike, so the correct front mech should be a 3 hole clamp on with silver arms? or would it be the type without the 'lip' on the cage?

Cheers
