Initially, I wasn't going to post this, but now that a couple of people have gone all "artsy fartsy" on-list, I figure I'll go all the way...

I was at the Smithsonian's National Portrait Gallery museum this past weekend to see an exhibition called "Ballyhoo! Posters as Portraiture". (Don't worry, I also rode the requisite 40 miles per day on my classic track bikes, but I digress.) So... the exhibition includes a couple of posters related to cycling, including this one of Major Taylor:

If you're able to visit the museum, I recommend strolling around, and keeping track of the number of pieces based on bicycling equipment. It's surprising just how much of it there is. And that isn't meant to prompt more discussions of Duchamps's Bicycle Wheel, since we've covered that before. Here's a link to the archives: http://search.bikelist.org/?SearchString=duchamp%27s&SearchPrefix=@msgsubject&Scope=classicrendezvous

\r?\n> In the spirit of Travis's Picasso anecdote I can report

\r?\n> that it was

\r?\n> recently and shockingly discovered that Homer is not in

\r?\n> fact the

\r?\n> author of the Illiad. Instead it was written by a

\r?\n> different Greek

\r?\n> poet of the same era, also blind, also named Homer.
