Subject: [CR]Lost out on PY-10

Folks,

I just endured my first CR bike auction loss on ebay, on the 53 cm Peugeot PY-10:

http://ebay.com/<blah>

It was my size, and I wanted to ride it, not hang it up. I was on a tight budget, and my LBS owner thought a "reasonable" price was under $500. (It sold for 273 GBP, or about $546. Shipping was another $150 from England.)

Questions for you all:

1) Was our estimate of this bike's worth (w/out wheels or cranks) off-base?

2) Is this "collecting" thing driving up prices for those of us who want to ride a bike, not just preserve it?

3)Where else can I find a 51 (c-c seat) x 55(c-c TT) relaxed-angles comfy bike for a reasonable amount ($1000 total cost to make it rideable, "tax and license included")?

4) Any and all related suggestions from those more experienced in these things will be most appreciated: off-list is probably best, unless there is something new to benefit all readers.

Thanks,
