Subject: [CR]FS: LARGE BATES FRAMESET W/ PARTS, CIRQUE WINNER!

Greetings:

Up for your consideration is my 25-inch, 1979 Bates Club light tourer in flamboyant green, built by Tom Board, whose work is on the Cirque website under the British Isles section.

This frameset when built, along with associated materials, won Best Display at Cirque 2006. The second photo link, below, shows how it was built up during that time and how truly lovely she can look.

The frameset has been ridden very few miles. It was Ray Etherton's personal bike for a short time, and clearly wasn't ridden more than a few miles, and later came to me via a CR list member who got it from Martin Copeland of Bates.

When the frameset came to me its original finish was in virtually NOS condition, incredibly pristine. My local wrench could not believe it wasn't a repaint. I have ridden it only 4 miles or so at Cirque, but there are now a couple of spots with chipped paint (on the drive side of the bottom bracket shell, which could be easily touched up) and one small scratch on the downtube which I show in the photos, but which would be hidden either by clamp-on downtube shifers or by a cable stop for barcons. There are also a few teeny-tiny chips elsewhere.

Otherwise, the paint is in just amazing condition for a 30-year-old bike.

Frameset facts:

531 DB traditional tubing. Note that this is NOT a Cantiflex (bulging) tubeset.

Patented Diadrant fork.

Nervex Professional lugset and bb.

Agrati rear dropouts.

Knurled knob fender bosses. Hard to find, and a very nice touch.

Original paint finish. Overall paint, excepting a few chips, is gorgeous. Very clean gold lug lining.

Bates metal headbadge (not a transfer). All frame transfers are perfect, including the "Boderized" rustproofing one.

Stronglight alloy headset; Phil Wood bb (NOS when installed, 4 miles ago)

Measurements:

seat tube: 24.5 inches c-t-c, 25 in. c-t-t top tube: 22.5 c-t-c chainstays: 44.5 cm seat tube angle: stamped 73 3 degrees on seatlug 126 rear spacing.

The frameset is available in one of three configurations:

1. Frame & fork, Stronglight headset, and Phil Wood bottom bracket. $550

2. Same as above, but including NOS Weinmann cantilever brakes (pictured) and vintage white-hooded Weinmann levers. $625

3. Same as No. 2, but also including a very nice set of 27 x 1 1/4 36-hole wheels (Sunshine hubs, lovely Araya rims and new and rare Duro redwall tires). $700

Shipping is not included in the price, but I've been getting very good deals lately, so it shouldn't be too much.

I also have other miscellaneous parts for this frameset.

Paypal only, please.

Thanks!
