Subject: [CR]Anglo-Italiano Track Pista frame

About a week ago I sought advice form the List about a very attractive tarc k frame that I have hanging from a nail in my workshop...the usual sort of thing with collectors or should I say hoardes such as myself. being a frame-builder, now quite long in the tooth, I thougyht that this be auty was at first English, because of its lovely swirling lugs, and then It alian because of the very Italian sylr rear end, numbering system..and Ital ian bracket..etc etc.

Well CR List members knew better..it is in fact a Swiss Sieber dating from the late 40s or early fifties. So I would like to thank members who have wr itten to me on and off the List to help me identify this beauty..in particu lar Edward Albert, Sarah Gibson( Acme Bicycle Co) and Hilary Stone. all of whom either sent mem jpegs of their own Siebers, or directed me to gallerie s displaying Sieber machines.

I am now the happy owner of a Swiss bike frame, and although I ride a CILO when on my holidays in Provence, the SIEBER is a far suprior frame in every respect..I almost describes it as enigmatical.

Of course on occasions when there is an upside there is also a converse. In the case of my SIEBER that is true too. While my frame bears all the scars of a hard life, hand paint job, having been used as a road machine with fr ont and rear derailleurs..but no brazed-on hangers thank goodness.. Edward' s example is a fine bike that even sports a set of SIEBER cane sprint rims. ..and Sarah's appears to still wear proudly its original paint job that rese mbles a brass-plated main frame, possibly a chromoveato..and chrome front f orks and rear triangle..and a beautiful Chater-Lea crankset complete with   an 1" pitch ring.

Edward has very kindly offred to help me with a set of Sieber transfers, so that the renovation can get underway...but now I need to source a set of S iber cane rims, the Chater-Lea crankset etc. Ironivally I have several sets of brand new cane rims..but no Siebers..

This collecting business really is a steep..and very long learning curve.

Once again , sincere thanks to all who replied.
