I would like to think that I would fall into that category, maybe at the tail end at least, being a kid in the early 90's. All my firends were dumping their BMX's and getting Mountain Bikes although we mostly just rode around on the streets. I much preferred my Panansonic 10 speed as it was much quicker and lighter than the incredibly heavy cheap mountain bikes of the day. Everyone was just fascinated with having a million gears and fat tires then. Then I was 16 and cars and girls were far more interesting and the bicycles just fell to the wayside in the garage. So I have no personal connection from my youth to the steel lugged beauties that those on this list froth over. I did discover them (classic steel lugged) by accident and haven't looked back since. They are truly works of art that don't need to be hung on a wall (even though some are) and though I can't say I drooled over that De Rosa loaded with Campy hanging in the bike shop window when I was a kid, I certainly can imagine I would have given I was old enough. Not being a racer and rather a lover of fine old things, a moden carbon/aluminum bicycle to me is as exciting as a Volkswagon Passat is to a Volkswagon Karmann Ghia (sp?) , a CD is to a vinyl record, John Lennon is to John Mayer, and I could go on forever...
