OK all...

The bike is a 1984 Gitane Team Pro. It is going to be used for "light duty" riding. I am still undecided as to whether or not to drill the bars...lean ing towards NO, but know that many people did do that, most of them without horrific results!

Regarding the levers, they will still be very much "on topic". In 1984, Fig non used a pair of drilled Campagnolo Super Record brake levers on his tour winning bike. By the way...the bars were drilled to allow for internal rou ting.

I am merely attempting to replicate the look of that bike, and wondered if anyone here had any experience drilling this stuff out.

So you want to make the bike appear "off topic"?

I remember back in the eighties when these "cable-less" brakes appeared. We old timers would always poke fun at folks riding those bikes on club rides about having no cables.

As for drilling the handlebars, that could be a bit risky. Usually the cables were just covered with tape or else the bars had channels pressed into them for that purpose.
