Okay, I am ready for all the emails I will get about this but here goes. I get annoyed by loud hubs. As an example I have to refer to some off topic more modern Campy aluminum Shamal wheels. Some wheels sound like a fishing reel that just hooked a marlin. I hate that continuous sound when coasting, it is amplified by the deep aluminum aero rims. My response is to pack the rear hub with a bit heavier grease to dampen that sound. It works well for me and I have not suffered any negative effects in doing so.
