Subject: [CR]My "New" Proteus Frame

Hi All,

I just purchased a 68cm Proteus frame built in 1977. See eBay auction 150311605364 for more info.

It appears to be designed for comfortable, long-distance road rides, with a spread out geometry (although the 59cm top tube is a bit too short for me) and eyelets on the dropouts. Tubing is R531, so I am hoping the ride is not too whippy. I suppose that if they used good, stout stays, everything should stay under control. Also, I think there was a "heavy duty" version of R531, yes? If so, let's hope they used that in the build.

I'll build it up with parts that I have in the garage and bring it to a Rose Bowl ride ASAP.

Any info on Proteus frames would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks very much in advance.

Sincerely,

- Forbes Black, Santa Clarita, CA
