This is one area in vintage restoration that I did compromise. I wanted to ALWAYS replace the spokes with stainless steel It seemed if you just looked at the galvanized (zinc plated) they would corrode. I went to a salvage after a bike shop burned. There in a large box were hundreds or thousands of spokes in a jumble. I took them home and washed and dried them all. I seperated them by stainless and galvanized and then by brand and then length. I gave the galvanized to the 'old fart bicycle man' who grumbled that they weren't welcome. Even the old farts will look a gift horse in the mouth....their breath is similar. BT

Why in God's name would you want galvanized? Also, shouldn't these be zinc?
