Bob,

I strongly disagree regarding your take on Montelatici. I have 3 of them and they scream Cinelli construction to me. And as far as I know Cino h imself never made frames. I suspect the detail related to the way Cinell i forks were built had to do with the the crown and the amount of mass i t involved as compared to a "typical" fork crown. Since Montelaticis wer e built with regular crowns that detail is not necessary.

Sadly as a Montelaticci owner myself I believe this

story does not hold air. There are a couple of Cinelli trade marks in

the Fork construction which are not present in any of the Montelaticci

frame sets which went thru Ed Littons shop. Ed really likes the way his

bike rides (which is what it is all about anyway, Correct?) but told me

that all Cinellis have both a flat under the crown race plus a drilled

hole which they used to gauge penetration of the braze in the fork crown

to steerer joint (a novel idea but he did employ others other than

himself to build frames ). Dave Martinez does have a Generati branded bike which

is consistent to Cinelli construction so we can say there were private

labeled bikes built, just probably not for Vasco Montelaticci .
