>From what I have understood, many people curved their own skewer levers, back before they were factory produced. This is in addition to the Record hubs on wheels that came through Schwinn. Schwinn countersunk the Campy drilled spoke holes in the hubs and built a bunch of track and road wheel sets, only to have many (don't know how many, but obviously enough) fail and break there. This is what inspired the "drilled out" or "double drilled" large flange hubs. I believe they took the already countersunk hubs, and produced new holes in between each, back to original Campy specs. The curved skewers were part of these wheel sets. I think curving was done in the 1960s too, when some Campy track hubs still had q/r skewers. Curving the handle allowed it to be safely tucked away so that it couldn't be accidentally flipped open with bike-to-bike contact ... which is certain to be a painful experience, should it happen to one while at speed on the velodrome.

If you feel like selling (or better, trading for) it, let me know ... I have one here, and need another to match for a local friend's bike with road wheels, as described above.

I have a Campy QR skewer that has the same "Vincenza Campagnolo Italy" cast ing as the common 1970s flat handled QR Skewers, however this handle is c urved. The screw on end of the skewer is identical to the 1970s skewers--c onical with the "D" ring--it does not have the bulbous end of the later ske wers. Is this the 1978 CPSC compliant model? When did the later curved ha ndle skewers with "Campagnolo" in script and the bulbous screw end appear?
