Kerrigan,

I am busy with Round One of setting up house out here on the "Left Coast", so I will be comparatively (...and some might argue, mercifully) brief:

Certainly a contributing factor for what you perceive as being a "higher" price having been fetched for these particular Record calipers might well be attributed in part to the seller's concise description and clear pictures.

But perhaps of more import to the dedicated Campagnista, these would appear to be early second edition Record calipers apropos the years 1969 through 1973 inclusive. Indeed, they have the pre 1978 non C.P.S.C. compliant "flat" style quick release levers without plastic wheel guide covers, pre 1980 quick release cam plates lettered "BREV CAMPAGNOLO", are pre 1981 without the rubber bump stop on the backside of the front caliper arm, and include pre 1983 dome shaped center bolt cap nuts and quick release cam lock nuts. But the absolute dead give-away that these are truly early calipers would be their post 1968 and pre 1974 second generation chamfered center bolts marked "BREV. CAMP." Those much more common Record brake calipers which otherwise look remarkably similar, but which were manufactured post 1973 and pre 1985, would have third generation center bolts simply marked "PATENT". And if you care to get even MORE specific, the fact that the eBay calipers in question came fitted with post 1970 and pre 1981 Rondella Dentata tooth washers marked "PATENT CAMPAGNOLO" would further narrow their date of origin down to 1971 through 1973.

I should have specified "Record" in the subject line and should have mentioned the difference in caliper inscriptions: "Brev. Inter." versus "Brev. Int."

But my questions remain: Are those the only differences? And is there something special about those early calipers that make them more desirable or rarer than other flat qr, "Brev. Inter." marked calipers?

Thanks,

Is there something special about the brake calipers in this eBay auction? http://ebay.com/<blah> item= 110341440566

$220 seems like a lot of money for these calipers. I think I've seen similar calipers go for a lot less.

In this later auction, what appear to be later calipers without the flat quick release and with black coated wheel guides go for a lot less: http://ebay.com/<blah> item= 120367061280

But are the quick release levers and wheel guides the only differences here?

Thanks for any light shed on this question.
