Subject: [CR] Cirque 2009 - Update

I know that some people are a little anxious about plans for the 2009 Cirque, since no new info has been added to the web site for a while. I just want to reassure everyone that there is a lot happening "behind the scene". In addition, I have been heavily involved in another project, which is taking up a great deal of my time. The dates of June 5, 6 & 7 for Cirque 2009 are still locked in!

I had hoped to have the schedule finalized by the end of January so that I can officially open registration, but a few details are still unresolved. Unfortunately, one of our premier seminar presenters has had to cancel, just as I was putting the finishing touches on that program. I'm also "tweaking" the overall schedule a bit, and trying a few new things. My goal is to have a more social, less formal schedule in some ways.

With that in mind, we have decided to eliminate the formal banquet, and instead are planning a more low-key "Themed" Awards Reception.

We are also organizing a "workshop" of sorts, as part of the Seminar program, with some interesting demonstrations.

The show will be organized much like it was last year, in a time line fashion, but there (hopefully) will also be some special categories and displays.

There will also be some very special displays, both at the event hotel and a the show site. I have lined up several very interesting vintage "trade show" and manufacturer display pieces. I encourage anyone who has similar things in their collection, and planning on attending the Cirque, to please consider bringing them. Please contact me if you think you have something that fits, and can help with this effort.

We are reprising our "evolution, past and present" theme, because we feel that there is still more to cover in that area of vintage and KOF bicycles.

The event headquarters hotel already has a number of Cirque reservations, and I encourage anyone even considering attending to make reservations now. You can always cancel later, and the hotel WILL FILL UP! Call the Best Western Leesburg directly at - 703-777-9400. Please tell them you are booking for the "Cirque".

Like everyone these days, we are concerned about the economy and everyone's personal financial situation, so we are trying to control costs wherever possible. That's one of the reasons for eliminating the catered banquet. We are also considering a change in the pricing structure, and having a "general attendance" fee that covers everything** except the Seminars and vendor spaces on Sunday. The Seminars would have a separate charge, and would still include a catered meal. None of this is set in stone yet. Just an idea we are considering, to try and reduce overall cost. Your thoughts about this option would be most welcome.

** "everything" would include opening reception with a buffet similar to last year, the awards reception, soft beverages and water throughout the weekend, and entry to the show on Sunday.

More details on all of this coming soon!

Thanks for you patience, stay tuned, and watch for web site updates soon!!
