Hi Sean, To clarify, a Super Record b.b. has a TI spindle and aluminum cups. Record (thin walled cups), or Nuovo Record (thick walled cups with rifled aperture) b.b.'s have steel spindle, and steel cups. For the time period of a no-date Record crank, SR b.b.'s did not exist yet. Therefore, "correct" for your friend's bike would be a Record or Nuovo Record steel b.b., with spindle marked 70-SS-120, as you mentioned. It's my experience from reading on the list, that either unit will function exactly the same for those cranks, but parts and pieces of each must not be mixed with the other, due to incompatibilities of the internal workings.

So, does he want Record, Nuovo Record, or early Super Record? The latter again will function fine with the cranks, but do not have many interchangeable parts with the others mentioned.

Greg Parker, please correct me if I have erred here. (Greg has been my "go-to" guy for Campy b.b. questions, since my beginnings on this fine list, so many short years ago). :)

Hello All.

I'm helping a friend out on a build and he is trying to track down a reasonably priced Super Record bottom bracket with italian threads. His record cranks are not date coded, so I'm assuming that they are pre 1973, so he would need the appropriate matching spindle. It's for a double, so I am also assuming that the spindle he needs is 70-SS-120.

If you have something you can part with for someone on a budget, please let me know. I will forward your information and put you directly in contact with him.

Thanks in advance.
