Subject: [CR] Jean Robic's bike?

Thanks Nick for sending the jpegs of the Peugeot that you beat me to buy ing.. Truth is I watched the bike on Eaby when it was at 400 euros..and it didn't get a bid. Then again and again..until it dropped to 200 euros. By t his time I had sent enough emails to Letendre Junior to keep Classicrendezv ous going for a couple of days. I even made a good offer and had arranged f or a French mate who lives nearby to go and check the machine out... Any wa y that's just so much water under the bridge..

Letendre Junior never claimed to me that the bike had belonged to Jean Ro bic, just that Robic had used it to ride his last race, the Vets Criterium  race that Letendre had organised and sponsored on the 5th October at Ger migny-Leveque, near Meaux, to the east of Paris, along with a peloton consi sting of the likes of Poulidolr, Geminiani, Vietto, Brambilla and Apo Lazar ides. However Letendre claimed that the bike had been one of his father's f ormer Pro machines. Eugene Letendre is quite small, but not as small as Rob ic.

I have one of Robic's bikes from the late 1940s..possibly 1947..and in rese arching it for a respray - it is sugffering from a metallic grass green ove r-spray - I have amassed quite a lot of photos, including some of Robic t aking part in that last criterium. Curiously Robic did not ride in the jers ey of the Letendre team, but one that had A.C.C.S. embroidered upon it. Nor did he ride a white bike with Mafac brakes..but a different coloured bike ( the photos are black and white) with Universal side-pull brakes.

HOWEVER..the Peugeot that you have..and it looks a darn sight better in you r photos than it did on Ebay..is very interesting and not at all a standa rd frame out of Peugeots factors at either Valentigny or Romilly-sur-Seine.

I tried to inspect the photos again before writing this email but the link to the site would not work. Is there any chance that you could send some jp egs to me Off-List, please?
