Both racing and some overnight (sag-supported) touring in my background, although all my "good" bikes have been road racing bikes: Gitane "Tour de France", Raleigh Pro Mark IV, Austro-Daimler "Superleicht" and Ciocc "San Cristobal" (my current ride).  I think the biggest bag I ever carried was a Cannondale tire-sock.  I spent a good chunk of my earlier cycling career in the hills of northwest Arkansas where a light, fast bike meant easier climbing without the need for "granny gears".
