If the original paint job is gone why does it matter? If an owner in the future wants to replace that paint job, the frame is being nicely protected by the current paint job. He can strip it and put a reproduction quality paint job on there.

I'd really like to know if there are painters out there that can restore a paint job to original when the seat tube has been replaced. That means paint destroying heat on 1/3 of the seat stays and chain stays, half of the downtube and top tube. That's at a minimum.

I'm not a Colnago collector, but having lived through the '70s it seems like it takes a pretty special Colnago to go into a museum anyway. Replacing a seat tube is disqualifying. There are probably a lifetime supply of mint Colnagos from the '70s sitting in basements. I think I might know where one is.
