"Re: Frejus and NYC's fixed-gear fever. Alice told me that her father was always a strong proponent of the "you only need one" philosophy...often selling track bikes (fitted with a Universal 61 brake, as that was how Tommy ordered them from the factory) to customers who came into his shop looking for a roadie. In fact, I can't say I have seen a Frejus track bike in The States that isn't drilled for a brake."

Yep, those were his exact words, and he was really careful about matching you up with the correct gear. As far as the ride of the Frejus pro-track, what can anyone say? My experience is similar to yours; it's super-nimble, yet somehow comfortable. It was also really easy to ride with no hands: You think about where you want to go, and it goes. I'm sure there are other bikes with similar (maybe even better) handling, though. Tommy also repaired the tubes on my red Frejus after a crash. He was, as many have said, a true gentleman.
