Gene, the first Phil hubs appeared in 1970 and the bottom bracket in the following year. Both the hubs and BBs have evolved a bit over the years. The early bottom brackets used a different sleeve arrangement than the modern ones. Very early hubs have chromed barrels, with a change in diameter at the flanges. Some of the early ones had problems with the flange coming off the barrels. The 2nd generation had the threaded drive side flange and brushed stainless steel barrels.

I've used Phil hubs and BBs since they were introduced and I don't think I've ever had a problem with them.
