Subject: [CR] Bike Display At The Tour of Missouri

I imagine that any one reading this entry has a collection of vintage bikes, some collections of course are larger than others. Some members ride their bikes while others don't in an effort to prevent dings, paint chips etc. So how can you share your treasures with others that would enjoy and appreciate them. Other than the Classic Rendezvous, there aren't many opportunities out there. I am always looking for an opportunity to display my bikes. Last week, I had such an opportunity at the Tour of Missouri which started this year in St. Louis. I made an offer which was accepted, to provide my bikes for display in the dinning hall of a gala dinner held the night before the start of the race. At this event all of the teams were presented on stage prior to dinner. It turned out to be a perfect venue for displaying my bikes. Some of you know that a good number of my bikes are 7-Eleven team bikes, so they fit right in. I have just posted photos from the event that I think you will enjoy looking at on the wool jersey site. http://www.wooljersey.com/gallery/Jerry/ . I did learn a few things that make for interesting displays. Insist on the lighting of your display and get the bikes off the ground when possible. In my case we used the equipment cases from the sound guys which were covered with black table cloths to elevate some of the bikes. All of the attendees enjoyed the bikes. Some of the young team riders were even trying to get on the TT bikes to see what one would feel like to ride. I had a great time. Jerry Jeter, Wildwood, MO USA
