matrix was the first name for columbus cromor, seamed cromoly tubing, similar or identical alloy to sl/sp, road gauge between sl and sp; matrix became cromor when trek asserted their right to the matrix name. look for really nice italian frames from the 80's with this stuff. they generally rode as well as their more-expensive brand mates.
