Well, he must have had SOME competition, as the second highest bid,in essence, determines the price. I was not surprised to see a high price, as I believe the rear derailleur is the very first parallelogram Simplex. Forget the model name, but I believe this RD in this condition has fetched $1000 or more from Japanese collectors in the past. I didn't notice anything else of similar rarity, and this is not a randonneur bike which the Japanese favor most, so I might have expected the bike to go for $2000. But certainly not $4,500. If the buyer is willing to close, I can't believe the seller would hesitate. She should be smiling all the way to the bank. It would be nice to believe this is the new norm for eBay prices, in which case many of us hoarders here are now rich. But I suspect it is just another of those isolated cases where a buyer (plus one other bidder) had some unusual attraction to an item.

\r?\n>     This has become an

\r?\n> Top bidder was ,you guessed it, Japanese. Now bidder must

\r?\n>      Fly in the ointment? Seller was

\r?\n> (other than to be honorable) was she already hit the Dinger

\r?\n> and should leave well enough alone. Her high bidder did not

\r?\n> more than anyone else was willing to pay.
