Subject: [CR] threaded shrader tubes, lyotard pedals, and fixations

Dear friends,   I appreciate the sources offerred for threaded shrader tubes. Thank you very much.

Now for the soapbox portion of our program:

I probably have some Lyotard 460s somewhere. My pedal of choice for my size 12 (aka as 45 to 47 depending on the maker [and I prefer a Belian last].) Herman Munsters have been Lyotard 23s. I have them in British and a few French threads. When after a long layoff, due to chronic bursitis in my left knee, I changed. I now favor MKS GR-9 platform pedals. I do find them comfortable. I think they look cheap. the finish is mediocre. I also gave up toe clips for "mini-clips." the mini clips allow me to have location without the restriction of full clips and straps. They are not as positive, but it satisfies me. In the end unless you give me something better, it is my decision, not yours. I will not presume to tell you what is "correct."  Please give me the same courtesy. In that vein, please give others the same courtesy.

As regards brakeless fioxies: I would much rather see someone ridsing a fixie than not riding at all. I do resent butchered road frames, but I don't get a say unless it is my frame.. It is my opinion that brakeless is not the safest method of riding. It takes too much of my fading concentration. I really have no say if you desire to go fixed and brakeless. I often ride a single speed with brakes by choice.   In California it appears there may be a loophole in the argument of a requirement for brakes. I personally don't feel like spending my time in traffic court arguing the merits of fixed bike stopping. Note: I do have a JD.  I have things to do that have more value to me. I try to talk younger friends not to go brakeless. I do not try to appeal to them that it is "wrong." I try to appeal to their wallet and time. It is not worth the time or hassle, IMHO. I would rather go riding.

Most of all I do not like to see what appear to be personal attacks. That serves no purpose that I can see. I would rather discuss positive aspects of cycling. I am a big fan of the SPCA, I don't like beating dead horses. It as effective as trying to change another's opinion that I do not have a face-to-face conversation with. Even the face-to-face is not very effective.

Now, please, back to our regularly scheduled program!

Ride 'em iof you got 'em, patch 'em when you have to.
