To me, the way to avoid getting sucked in by bidding games is to look at the item, decide what it is worth to me, put in a maximum bid for that amount, and pay for it if I win it. If the price goes higher than I was willing to pay at the outset, so what? I don't get the item. No loss.

Fraud on eBay does not change how my bikes ride. Your mileage may vary.
