Jay - Mine from late 50s seemed to take a small seat post like that but the lug ears closed up. After rounding it out and reaming a little it turned out to fit a 26.6 perfectly. I wonder if yours might be the same. I had a devil of a time landing a Campy seat post that size but finally did. I've had a lot of bikes with undersized seat posts like that. It must not have been common practice to ream to correct size back then so they just put in whatever would go in easily.
