Back in the day, a clever fellow with TA rings who envied the Stronglight and other bolts to prevent the chain from slipping between the chainring and the arm would have just tried to use one hardware store bolt, a stop-nut, and thread it into one arm of the chainring. 8-32 ought to do fine. cut screw to fit. Just choose the proper chainring arm that will perfectly align with the crank arm. Since there are six arms but only 5 bolts attaching the chainring to the crank, you'll find there is one position that works. It won't be TA, but it will get the desired result. While I'm at it, back in the day I learned the hard way to be sure that the middle chainring was bolted to the outer as far out as possible. I actually twisted one backwards on a bike camping trip once, before I learned to support them better. On one bike, I actually just used regular hardware store stuff, with the outer ends countersunk. Worked fine.

But this reminds me of one reason that I like the Stronglight 99 (and SR equivalent) better than the TA system. The TA just plain didn't have much space between crank arm and outer chainring, and it was the devil's own work to set up a front derailleur. I don't think that it was possible w/o using a FD that had a perfectly flat outer plate. I don't care what the "Q factor" (width of crank assembly) is if I can't easily set up the shifting.

end of rant and suggestion.

These are the two bolts that screw into the chainring bolts nearest the crank arm on the drive side. They prevent the chain from getting stuck between the chainwheel and the crankarms. For those of you who have had this happen, I'm sure you know what a PIA this in when in the middle of a ride.
